How to Cancel Bitwarden Premium or Families Plan 2026

Bitwarden is one of the most affordable password managers available and cancellation is simple. Here is how to cancel both individual premium and family plans.

Cancelling Bitwarden Premium

Log into vault.bitwarden.com. Click your profile icon in the top right. Go to Account Settings then Subscription. Click Cancel Subscription. Confirm the cancellation. Your premium features will continue until the end of your current annual period. At renewal, your account reverts to the free plan rather than charging again.

Cancelling Bitwarden Families

The organisation owner must cancel. Go to vault.bitwarden.com. Click the organisation name. Go to Settings then Subscription. Click Cancel Subscription. All organisation members will lose premium features at the end of the billing period. Individual personal vaults are unaffected. Members can continue using Bitwarden free after the family plan cancels.

Refund policy

Bitwarden does not have a published money-back guarantee. At $10 per year for premium and $40 per year for families, the amounts are small enough that refund requests are rarely raised. If you have a genuine issue, contacting support at support@bitwarden.com is worth trying, particularly if you have just been charged and have not used the service.

Your data after cancellation

Bitwarden is free indefinitely. Cancelling premium does not delete your vault or your account. You simply lose the premium features: advanced 2FA, encrypted file attachments, and password health reports. All your passwords remain accessible on the free plan with no limitations on devices or password count.

Exporting before cancelling

If you are switching to another password manager, export your vault first. In Bitwarden web vault go to Tools then Export Vault. Choose your format and download. Keep this file secure as it contains all your passwords.
