Is SiteGround Safe for Your Website in 2026?

SiteGround is used by millions of websites. But how safe is it for hosting your own site? We look at their security features, uptime history, and data protection policies.

When choosing a web host, safety means several things: is your website data secure from breaches, is the hosting environment hardened against attacks, and is your site protected from being taken offline. We examined SiteGround on all three dimensions.

Physical and network security

SiteGround uses Google Cloud infrastructure in data centres with ISO 27001 certification, 24/7 physical security, and redundant power. The network is protected by Google Cloud firewall and DDoS mitigation. These are enterprise-grade foundations.

Application-level security

SiteGround includes a proprietary web application firewall that blocks known malicious traffic patterns. They update firewall rules proactively when new vulnerabilities are discovered, often before official patches are available. Free SSL certificates are included on all plans and auto-renewed.

Malware scanning and removal

Daily malware scans are included. If malware is detected, SiteGround notifies you and provides tools for removal. On higher plans, professional malware removal is included at no extra charge.

Data backup policy

SiteGround performs daily automated backups and retains them for 30 days on most plans. Backups can be restored with one click from the control panel. This is one of the strongest backup policies in shared hosting.

Uptime and reliability

SiteGround advertises 99.9% uptime. Independent monitoring sites generally confirm uptime between 99.95% and 99.99% in normal operation. Downtime is rare and usually planned maintenance.

The verdict

SiteGround is safe. It is one of the more security-conscious shared hosting providers available, with real infrastructure investment rather than just marketing claims. For most websites it provides more than sufficient protection.
